  Questions About Our Essential Oils

WHY ARE ESSENTIAL OILS USED FOR HEALING?

Translations of ancient manuscripts indicate that priests and physicians used essential oils for healing and rituals for thousands of years before the birth of Christ.
Pure essential oils are highly concentrated extracts; 75 to 100 times more concentrated than dried herbs. They naturally contain hormones, vitamins and antiseptics that work on many levels. Transmission of the aroma of the oils is direct to the limbic system, a part of the brain which stores responses to memory, pleasure and emotions. Odor triggers the limbic system to release neurochemicals such as those which reduce pain, create feelings of well being, support sexual response and induce relaxation and calmness. When essential oils are placed on the skin, they begin to break down and are ready to metabolize. It is not necessary to apply pure essential oils to a specific area of the body for healing to occur. Pure oils seem to have an innate intelligence which guides them to the parts of the body where they are most needed.

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS

Pure essential oils are natural substances, which are extracted by distillation from tiny molecular sacs of each botanical. They are part of the plant's immune system and yet a separate substance created from the plant. Although most essential oils come from botanical material, there are also several animal oils such as musk, which contain essential healing properties. Animal oils have more powerful effects on the human system than botanical oils.

Translations of ancient manuscripts show that priests and physicians used essential oils for healing and rituals for thousands of years before the birth of Christ. Aromatic medicine, the ancient art of aromatherapy, was recorded in Egypt and India more than six thousand years ago. Recipes for healing blends have been found on the walls of pharaohs' tombs. Aromatics were also used in ancient Persia, Greece, Rome, China and throughout Europe.

Pure essential oils are highly concentrated extracts, which are 75 to 100 times more concentrated than dried herbs. They contain hormones, vitamins, and antiseptics that work on many levels. All essential oils to a greater or lesser extent exhibit certain medicinal qualities: Antiseptic, bactericidal, bacteriostatic and cytophylactic (promotes cell rejuvenation when applied to the skin).

The tiny molecular structure of each oil permeates the skin's surface or through the olfactory nerves. When essential oils are placed on the skin, they break down and are ready to metabolize as they pass through it. As they move through the different layers of skin and cells, the oils break down into smaller and smaller particles. Transmission of the aroma is direct to the limbic system, a part of the brain, which stores responses to memory, pleasure and emotions. Odor triggers the limbic system to release neurochemicals such as enkephaline, which reduces pain and creates a feeling of well being; endorphins, which kill pain and induce sexual feelings; and serotonin, which induces relaxation and calmness.

HOW DO I USE UTTATI'S OILS?

The purity of Uttati oils makes it possible to use very small amounts. Less than a drop on the skin provides a long lasting aromatic effect. Three to five drops are sufficient in a bath.
The benefits of massage can be enhanced and extended by adding single essential oils or specially formulated blends to a carrier oil. When essential oils are used in a massage, the effectiveness is relieving stress, elevating mood and promoting good health and well being is dramatically enhanced. For massage, a light effect can be obtained with a ratio of 1 to 400. As an example, 8 cc of essential oil is added to 96 oz of a carrier oil. For a more therapeutic effect, use a ratio of 1 to 100 8cc to 24 oz of a carrier oil.
Essential oils should never be taken internally. They can interact negatively with the body's mucus membranes and stomach lining.
To test for allergic reactions, apply a minute amount to the skin on the top of the hand between the thumb and the index finger. In the event of an adverse reaction, apply a vegetal oil such as canola or olive, then wash with cold water.
Essential oils work well with flower remedies. However, they can alter the effects of homeopathic remedies when applied to the body. Diffusion is an acceptable alternative when oils cannot be applied directly to the body.

HOW ARE BLENDS CREATED?

When an essential oil blend is formulated, there is a true chemical interaction between the various components of each oil creating a totally new structure. In addition to the number of oils used, the ratio and amount of oils used also affect the complexity and structure of the blend because they change the amount of the chemical constituents available for interaction. Distillation techniques impact blending as well. Some chemicals appear during distillation that don't exist in the plant itself. For example, azulene begins to appear in chamomile only after 12 hours of distillation. Just exchanging one lavender for another will affect the impact of the blend because each oil contains a ratio of chemical constituents unique to that oil.

Uttati's blends are highly complex and work on numerous levels. Raed Rady is a master formulator whose artistry in blending is supported by life long study. He has a scientist's knowledge of the intricate interaction of the oils and their chemical components combined with a healer's sensitivity to the effects that scent has on the human body. Many of the healing blends he creates are based on ancient formulations that recognize no separation between mind, body and spirit.

WHAT ABOUT UTTATI'S BOTTLES?

Uttati has always used clear bottles for its oils recognizing that certain light waves enhance their potency. In stark contrast, research demonstrates that the brown bottles generally used for essential oils reduce the frequency and the potency of their contents.

In keeping with its philosophy of offering the highest quality healing products, Uttati adds the beautiful and potent dark violet bottle to its product line. These bottles were developed after painstaking research by the German company Miron Glass. Concerned about maintaining the integrity of its remedies once bottled, Miron began a lengthy hunt for a glass color that would enhance the potency of remedies rather than decrease it over time. Since 1991 Miron Glass has captured in glass the highest frequency of sunlight, the healing properties of the violet spectrum. This unique dark violet glass has demonstrated it ability to harmonize the frequencies of its contents as well as increasing potency and longevity. Even more remarkable research shows that the violet spectrum has a direct connection to the body's nervous system and will cause the transfer of healing vibrations at that level.

WHAT DID ANCIENT EGYPTIANS CONTRIBUTE TO AROMATIC MEDICINE?

Translations of ancient manuscripts show that aromatic medicine, the ancient art of aromatherapy, was recorded in Egypt more than six thousand years ago. Egyptians made no distinction between what we call cosmetics, perfume, pharmaceuticals, medicine and religious ceremonies. These were all part of a single system for healing carried out through the priesthood. Egyptians also made no distinction between physical, emotional mental or spiritual ailments. Spiritual perfection was achieved only by perfecting the physical, emotional and mental layers.

Egyptian priests discovered enfleurage, the extraction of scent by the use of odorless fats. This first extraction method (which is still in use today) enabled Egyptians to begin experimenting with essential oils and to ultimately understand and use their full power to bring about spiritual perfection.

Uttati integrates this ancient wisdom of spiritual perfection with modern science to develop products that return body, mind and spirit to balance, harmony and health.

ESSENTIAL OILS VERSUS PERFUMES

The history of perfumery and the use of aromatic oils have their roots in ancient Egypt. Fragrant and exotic oils were offered in tribute to Pharaohs and their queens who used them for romance, seduction and intrigue.
For generations the families that comprise the Uttati network have created their own unique perfumes as well as supplying the highest quality essential oils to the perfume industry. Raed Rady, the founder of Uttati International, understands how scent affects the body and the psyche and how the nose can be tricked. As a result, Uttati's perfume blends contain only pure, therapeutic quality, first press essential oils. The blends are specially formulated to appeal not only to the nose, but to provide a holistic approach to the body, mind and spirit.
Using therapeutic quality, first press essential oils either as single oils or blends instead of perfumes provides a unique sensory experience as well as profound, multi-layered benefits. This is also a cost-effective approach to having a unique, signature fragrance, to sending the right messages to yourself and others.
When you buy commercial fragrances, you are paying for diluted oils, synthetic ingredients, and a very high percentage of alcohol. Alcohol added to pure essential oils alters their fragrance and can be irritating to the skin. Hidden in the perfume may be ingredients and chemicals that can cause allergic reactions and other harmful effects.
If it is a "name" brand, you are also paying for marketing and sales costs as well as the glamour and celebrity associated with the "name." Millions of dollars may be spent to create a signature fragrance that thousands of other people will be wearing making a fragrance expensive rather than unique.
Quality blended fragrances release their scent over a period of several hours. The first scent to lift from the skin is known as the top note. Usually top notes are the lightest floral essences in the blend. The middle note can be spicy, herbal, woody or minty essences combined with other floral notes. The base note, also known as the dry out note, is used to unfold pleasantly and harmoniously. The best blend is one which aligns with and compliments your unique body chemistry. It will then lift exquisitely over a period of hours.

WHAT IS NATUAL PROGESTERONE?

The progesterone used in Uttati's formulations comes from the wild Mexican yam. Through laboratory synthesis, the wild yam produces a natural progesterone that is identical to that created by the body. Research has shown that natural progesterone is much more effective than that produced synthetically and has no side effects.

WHAT IS "ESTROGEN DOMINANCE"?

"Estrogen Dominance" is a term coined by Dr. John R. Lee the internationally recognized expert is the use of progesterone. The term describes the hormonal imbalance caused by too much estrogen and a deficiency of another hormone.
In women, estrogen dominance is characterized by an excess of estrogen over progesterone. Clinical research indicates that as many as 50% of the women in North America are severely deficient in progesterone by their early thirties. By menopause, the level of estrogen drops by 40% to 60%, while progesterone is reduced to nearly zero. Dr. Lee has documented that it is this hormonal imbalance, estrogen dominance, that causes the symptomology with which most women are unhappily familiar throughout their menopausal and post-menopausal years.
In men, Dr. Lee uses "Estrogen Dominance" to refer to the excess of estrogen over testosterone. Estrogen is vital to the male body, but too much estrogen coupled with a loss of testosterone has been linked to prostate problems and prostate cancer along with other conditions of aging.
Preventing estrogen dominance, prevents prostate as well as breast cancer, Dr. Lee contends. And by eliminating estrogen dominance once cancer has taken hold in the body, he believes cancer's growth will slow, extending life.

WHAT IS L-ARGININE?

Although L-Arginine has long been known as an important amino acid, recent discoveries are revolutionizing the way many chronic illnesses and degenerative diseases are being addressed therapeutically through its use. In 1998, the Nobel Prize for Medicine for conferred on three Americans for their discoveries of how nitric oxide (NO), the byproduct of the break down of L-Arginine in the body, functions in a wide array of body systems.
Arginine-derived nitric oxide (ADNO) is a molecule with an amazing array of therapeutic properties. Some functions ADNO is now known to perform include: maintaining normal blood pressure through the relaxation of arteries; opening coronary arteries; helping prevent the clumping of blood platelets which can cause heart attacks and strokes; enhancing communication between nerve cells and the brain; and stimulating the release of human growth hormone.

Understanding the role that nitric oxide plays in supporting and relaxing blood vessels has led to the development of the well-known anti-impotence drug for men. Pharmaceutical companies are rushing to create other synthetic therapies based on this L-arginine/nitric oxide pathway; however, L-arginine is a potent nutraceutical in its natural form.
Statistics indicate that most adults ingest more than five grams of L-Arginine a day from normal dietary sources. Researchers have shown the safety of 30 to 50 grams or more of arginine administered intravenously.
